L-Carnitine is a substance produced in the liver and kidneys, and its role in the body is to facilitate the transport of fatty acids to the mitochondria.
These intracellular formations have the main function of energy production, as a result of the burning of fatty acid chains. It is known that L-Carnitine is mostly assimilated from food (milk, meat) and only about 25% is endogenous in nature. An insufficient amount of L-Carnitine will lead to a deficient transport of fatty acids at the level of the mitochondria, which results in depriving the body of the energy needed to carry out various activities. As in the skeletal muscle the most intense process of burning of fatty acids takes place, the highest amount of L-Carnitine is stored in the muscle tissue. A similar amount is found in the heart muscle.
